「あなたは、ちりだから、ちりに帰る」 (創世記 第 3 章) （For dust you are and to dust you will return.”）

13 そこで主なる神は女に言われた、「あなたは、なんということをしたのです」。女は答えた、「へびがわたしをだましたのです。それでわたしは食べました」。
14 主なる神はへびに言われた、／「おまえは、この事を、したので、／すべての家畜、野のすべての獣のうち、／最ものろわれる。おまえは腹で、這いあるき、／一生、ちりを食べるであろう。
15 わたしは恨みをおく、／おまえと女とのあいだに、／おまえのすえと女のすえとの間に。彼はおまえのかしらを砕き、／おまえは彼のかかとを砕くであろう」。
16 つぎに女に言われた、／「わたしはあなたの産みの苦しみを大いに増す。あなたは苦しんで子を産む。それでもなお、あなたは夫を慕い、／彼はあなたを治めるであろう」。
17 更に人に言われた、「あなたが妻の言葉を聞いて、食べるなと、わたしが命じた木から取って食べたので、／地はあなたのためにのろわれ、／あなたは一生、苦しんで地から食物を取る。
18 地はあなたのために、いばらとあざみとを生じ、／あなたは野の草を食べるであろう。
19 あなたは顔に汗してパンを食べ、ついに土に帰る、／あなたは土から取られたのだから。あなたは、ちりだから、ちりに帰る」。

13 Then the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?”
The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”
14 So the Lord God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this,
“Cursed are you above all livestock
and all wild animals!
You will crawl on your belly
and you will eat dust
all the days of your life.
15 And I will put enmity
between you and the woman,
and between your offspring and hers;
he will crush your head,
and you will strike his heel.”
16 To the woman he said,
“I will make your pains in childbearing very severe;
with painful labor you will give birth to children.
Your desire will be for your husband,
and he will rule over you.”
17 To Adam he said, “Because you listened to your wife and ate fruit from the tree about which I commanded you, ‘You must not eat from it,’
“Cursed is the ground because of you;
through painful toil you will eat food from it
all the days of your life.
18 It will produce thorns and thistles for you,
and you will eat the plants of the field.
19 By the sweat of your brow
you will eat your food
until you return to the ground,
since from it you were taken;
for dust you are
and to dust you will return.”
20 Adam named his wife Eve, because she would become the mother of all the living.
